Klaus Obermeyer founded the skiwear company that bears his name in 1949. After 56 years--and bringing to market such innovations as the down parka and mirrored sunglasses--the company is still going strong, employing about 60 Coloradans. Obermeyer's hottest category is hybrids, which are best worn as a layer in cold weather but serve as stand-alone outerwear in spring and fall. For example, the company's Ion hybrid features a back made of waterproof and breathable stretch fabric, and a warmer front made of quilted nylon. Director of Sales Barbara Owen said that hybrids went out of style in the '70s, but came around after the 'loose and baggy' snowboarding trend lost steam. Noted Owen: 'Fashion is coming back to the snow-sports industry again.' $169.50 retail.
